Ross Homes is owned by Mike Ross, and is operated by Mike and his son Austin. In 1977, when Mike was 14, he started building hardwood furniture. In 1981, as a senior in high school, he designed and built a five string banjo and received a 1st place achievement award at the state of Iowa Industrial Arts Exposition.
He continued to build furniture and eventually started building and designing custom decks and garages. From there he started working for a remodeling company where he learned how to roof, frame houses, install siding, paint, remodel kitchens, remodel bathrooms, lay blocks, lay flooring, do electrical wiring, plumbing, and some heating and air conditioning. In 1990 he was involved in building a water slide park in Yankton, SD and was the supervisor over a crew of workers. There he learned how to run heavy equipment. When that was completed, he went to work for a company who built treated wood foundation homes, and that was the start of his new home construction. He has been building new homes since 1990.
Mike and his wife Lisa have designed many new home blueprints and roughly 50% of all new homes he builds were designed by Ross Homes. Mike is a person whose word is solid. His commitment to customer satisfaction is an absolute must. He takes modern day materials to build dreams. He has taken the phrase “Treat others as you would have them treat you,” as a vehicle to turn Ross Homes into a successful business.
